Brisbane Racing Carnival
The Brisbane Racing Carnival, sponsored by Channel 7, kicks off
five weeks of thrilling sport, stunning fashion, celebrity spotting, fine
dining and entertainment from 10 May. Racing draws the best from all
over Australasia to the Doomben and Eagle Farm Racecourses where
past winners have included the legendary Black Caviar and Apache Cat.
The program of 42 races includes the opening Bundaberg Distilling
Co. BTC Cup Day (10 May), Doomben Cup Family Day (17 May),
James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10,000 Day (24 May), Treasury
Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks Day (31 May) and AAMI
Stradbroke Day (7 June).
Every race day is a style fest but this year the new addition of the
Peacock Lane Fashion Marquee will be a hot ticket for front-row
viewing of the glamorous Fashions on the Field competition. Oaks Day
is the traditional ‘Ladies Day’ of the Carnival and the Carnival Ball on
30 May is another chance to frock up in the spotlight.

Big Fat Greek Festival
We think it’s the best Greek festival this side of Athens and 38 years
of honey puff eating, Zorba dancing, plate smashing and bouzouki
playing makes us a pretty good judge! It’s certainly one of the biggest.
Paniyiri Festival will be back in Musgrave Park, West End with 30
food stalls, Greek ‘Dancing with the Stars’ with talent from Channel
7, grape stomping, olive and honey puff eating competitions, Hellenic
dancing and new events including Greek cooking master classes and
comedy nights.
If you don’t know your Spanakorizo from your Loukoumathes
this is the place to find out. It’s the longest running cultural festival
in Queensland and the longest running Greek festival in Australia!
Paniyiri is on Saturday 24 May 12 noon until 10pm and Sunday 19
May 10am until 7pm. Tickets, single day $11.50 each.
