TRAVEL NEWS

ALOHA

HAWAII

An increase in demand for travel from

Brisbane to Honolulu has led to new and

upgraded flight services on the route

from December. Jetstar introduces

non-stop flights on an Airbus A330 from

15 December which will operate twice

weekly (Tuesday and Friday) in the off-

peak season and a third service (Sunday)

in the peak season. Earlier this year

Hawaiian Airlines added a fourth flight

each way to its schedule of non-stop

flights from Brisbane and upsizes its

aircraft on the route to an A330 starting

this month. Hawaiian Airlines includes a

very generous baggage allowance of 30kg

for each passenger – more than enough

to pack a bag full of bikinis, sarongs and

sandals. Details at

HOLIDAY PARKS

get family vote

Following the last school holidays Wotif crunched

their numbers and reviewed the feedback from

family travellers and found holiday parks still get top

marks as a holiday destination – and Queensland

holiday parks scored best of all. It’s true there’s a

trend towards shiny new apartment hotels that are

just like a home away from home – but that’s just it,

who wants to holiday in a place like home?

The best fun of a holiday park is meeting the other

kids to muck about on the jumping pillow, spend

every day at the waterpark if you want to (without

having to pay to get in), playing games from dawn

to dusk until dad calls you to the barbecue for tea

(again) and going to sleep with the sound of cicadas

outside.

Where else are you going to get free pancake

breakfasts on Sunday, free snorkelling lessons in

the pool or bags a beach volleyball court before

breakfast? These holiday parks, that’s where …The

top five rated and reviewed holiday parks on Wotif’s

list are:

Gold Coast Holiday Park, Helensvale, Gold Coast

More than 12 hectares of nature to explore, with wildlife talks, pool with

waterslide, BMX track, Sunday pancake breakfasts and Tuesday barbecues.

Tent sites to caravan and campervan sites and cabins.

Cairns Coconut Holiday Resort, Cairns

A ‘Splash’ waterpark all of its own, an interactive play hub suitable for

hearing and vision impaired children, activities from badminton, bocce and

beach volleyball to mini golf and snorkelling lessons. Campsites to luxury

cabins.

Ashmore Palms Holiday Village, Gold Coast

Home to one of the best collections of brightly coloured Macaws you will

see outside South America in tropical rainforest surrounds, lagoon pools,

movie room, budget to premium cabins.

Pambula Beach Holiday Park, NSW

Close to the beach on the NSW Sapphire Coast, near Merimbula, for beach

fishing, whale and dolphin watching, indoor and outdoor pools, waterpark,

campsites to ensuited caravan sites and villas.

Yarraby Holiday Park, Echuca, Victoria

About 10 hectares on the banks of the Murray River near the historic port

town of Echuca. Outside the park, Echuca and a paddle steamer cruise on

the river are worth the trip. Powered campsites and cabins onsite.
