now half her clientele are shopping from centres such as London,
Germany and the US.
Wood is, after all, her own best advertisement. She wears her own
label most of the time, interspersed with vintage finds or new items
that are thrifted. “It’s rare that I go into a store to buy a new outfit,”
she says. She is also photographed wearing her designs, as she is on
these pages, for her website.
For Wood, as it is for many of her clients, vintage is more than just
a look, it’s a reflection of her personality and a way of life. The pull of
the op shop, vintage fair or out-of-the-way antique burrow draws her
in every time. “It’s the treasure hunt that I love, the dirtier the corner
the better, and if I see an op shop sign I have to stop immediately,” she
says, her eyes sparkling as she describes her latest surprise find at her
local weekend market.
