Packing your suitcase
Remember volume limits apply on powders, liquids, aerosols and gels in carry-on baggage when travelling internationally.
- Containers up to 100ml in size for liquid, aerosol and gel items.
- Store items in a clear plastic bag.
- Inorganic powders like salt, talcum powder and sand - a limit of 350ml or 350g per person applies.

Check-in
Brisbane Airport recommends arriving three hours before an international flight.
Check-in is available on Level 4 of the International Terminal using self-check-in and automated bag drop facilities. Airline staff will also be available to assist passengers.
Please note: Check-in for some airlines has temporarily relocated to Level 2 of the International Terminal due to ongoing redevelopment. Please refer to the Flight Information Display screens for check-in information.
Security Screening (compulsory for all outgoing passengers)
At the International Terminal, only passengers with a valid boarding pass can enter the security screening area.
To support a faster and more seamless experience, you can now leave all items in your carry-on bags during screening, including laptops, other devices and powders, liquids and gels.
Passport Control (compulsory for all outgoing passengers)
The last step before you fly is Passport Control which can happen electronically via SmartGate or manually with an Australian Border Force Officer.
When can I use SmartGate? Departure SmartGates are a simple, one-step process that offers travellers a quicker way to clear Passport Control using face recognition and matching technology. SmartGate can process all travellers with a scannable ePassport and can understand and follow the process without assistance. For more information, visit SmartGate.
When will I be directed to an Australian Border Force Officer? Families travelling with young children, passengers who are unable to use Smartgate without assistance and those with non-scannable passports will be directed to an Australian Border Force Officer for manual processing.
Waiting to board your flight
Boarding gate numbers will be made available one hour prior to departure on the Flight Information Display boards. You can find your Gate, food outlets and shopping options on the Terminal Map.
Consider waiting for your flight in a pay-per-use lounge for a catered start to your holiday. You can find an all lounges on the Terminal Map.
Arrive at your gate well before boarding begins and monitor flight information screens for updates. Boarding times and final call requirements vary by airline.
