When it comes to island getaways in the Philippines, names like Boracay, Palawan, and Manila often come to mind – and for good reason. These iconic destinations have long captured the hearts of travellers with their beauty and vibrant energy. But there’s another place that deserves a spot on your travel radar: Cebu.
If you're looking for a richer, more authentic taste of island life then it's time to book your ticket to Brisbane’s newest direct flight destination – Cebu, the heart of the Visayas islands.
From the vibrant street culture of the Philippines’ second largest city to crystalline waters teeming with schools of sardines and mesmerising underwater dive sites from the northern tip at Malapascua and down on the southwest coast at Moalboal, there’s endless adventure to be had both above and below the water.
Cebu City
The capital of the Southern Phillipines, Cebu City is a vibrant place to start your Cebu adventure with colonial architecture, mountainous surrounds and a vibrant cultural scene.
With a population of three million, the hum of the city is in its dining, rooftop bars and nightclubs, with a dizzying amount of food to savour.
Try the crispy skin and tender meat of lechon (whole roasted pig) as well as freshly caught seafood served sutukil-style, with grilled, stewed and raw fish all on one plate.
Cebu’s colonial and religious history can be experienced by visiting Magellan’s Cross, a statue commemorating the foundation of Christianity in the Philippines, Basilica del Santo Niño, the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines and the Taoist Temple, a serene temple built by the Chinese community in the 1970s.
Cebu is not only a bustling urban hub – it is also a gateway to some of the most incredible natural wonders the Philippines has to offer, so you can dive into culture and coral reefs on the same day.
Kawasan Falls
Set in lush jungle surroundings, Kawasan Falls is a three-tiered waterfall known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters. Choose your own adventure, whether it’s wading in the natural pools, trekking across the rock formations or joining a guided canyoneering tour to test your rock scrambling, cliff jumping and water sliding skills.
Kawasan Falls is a 30 minute journey from Moalboal or 4 hour journey from Cebu City.

Snorkel in Moalboal
Located in the southern end of Cebu, snorkelling in Moalboal offers the chance to witness a truly magical sight: the spectacular sardine run. The underwater highway is where thousands upon thousands of shimmering sardines speed past every day. Also hidden in the sea grass during the morning hours are green sea turtles. Watch the majestic, calm creatures bob their way through the ocean and enjoy a breakfast in the coral.
Osmena Peak Hike
Osmena Peak is the highest point on the island, sitting at 1013 meters above sea level. The moderate 30 minute hike to the summit rewards hikers with 360 degree views of Moalboal Bay and the rugged green hills, and is best enjoyed a sunrise or sunset.
Osmena Peak is a 1.5hr drive from the nearby beach towns of Moalboal and Oslob.

Island Hopping
Cebu offers some of the best island-hopping experiences in the Philippines. Each of the islands showcases a different side of Cebu’s coastal charm, rich marine life, natural wonders and adventure.
Malapascua Island is a must for divers, offering the rare chance to see thresher sharks in the wild.
Head north to Bantayan Island, where powdery white sands and laid-back vibes await in the archipelago of 20 smaller islands and inlets.
Don't miss Kalanggaman Island, with its iconic sandbar stretching into crystal-clear seas, ideal for day trips and drone-worthy shots.
Pandanon Island’s long stretch of powdery white sand attracts many visitors. The small, white chapel adds to the island’s peaceful atmosphere.
Many tour operators offer island hopping boat trips departing Oslob, Moalboal or Cebu City.
