Domestic Terminal Construction Works
Construction works continue on the Domestic Terminal Security Upgrade Project in the central area of the Domestic Terminal that have changed the way you travel at BNE. Please take the time to review the information below.
Changes for departing Domestic passengers
The way you access check-in, bag drop and security screening inside the terminal has changed for select airline passengers.
Best route for Jetstar passengers
Passengers arriving via the Skywalk will need to use the travelators on the opposite side and walk around the forecourt to reach Check-in and Bag Drop areas. The lift remains available, and signage will be in place to assist with wayfinding.
Jetstar passengers will use the new temporary check-in and bag-drop facility location on the northern (Qantas) side of the terminal, in front of the Qantas entry. Passengers will now use the central screening point. Find more detailed information for Jetstar passengers here.
For Domestic passengers being dropped off on the Pick-up and Drop-off road, please use these zones for easier access to the Domestic Terminal:
- All Qantas and Jetstar passengers, it is recommended that you use Zone 1 (Light Blue) to Zone 3 (Dark Blue) at the very beginning of the road.
Virgin Australia, Rex, Alliance, Link Airways, National Jet Express, and Link Airways passengers, it is recommended that you use Zone 6 (Yellow) through to Zone 7 (Green) towards the end of the road.
- All Qantas and Jetstar passengers will claim baggage on carousels 1-3. For best access, please use the exit opposite Gate 23 only.
- Virgin, Alliance, Rex, National Jet Express, Aerlink, and Link Airways passengers will claim baggage on carousels 5-7. Due to a closure of access inside the terminal, for direct access to baggage claim, you will need to use the exit opposite Gate 39.
- Qantas and Jetstar passengers: Due to Skywalk works, if you need to access Car Park, Car Rentals, Hotels & Conference Centre, Buses, Coaches or Train, passengers will need to cross the road outside the exit of the Jetstar temporary check-in facility to the drop-off / pick-up lane. From there, they can use the travelator or lift. Signage will be in place to assist with wayfinding.
Now the central area of the Domestic Terminal is closed, we have set up a temporary information desk, currently located at the Southern (Virgin) end of the terminal. You can find the friendly Airport Ambassadors before screening, just look for the blue shirts with the yellow ‘I’.
International Terminal Construction Works
Construction works will progress for the International Terminal Security Upgrade & Retail Project around Level 4 and on Level 3 around Passport Control. The new screening point has opened on Level 4 of the International Terminal.
Tips for departing International passengers
As a result of construction works reducing space in this area, queuing for check-in and security screening may be longer than usual especially during the morning peak times. Flight prioritisation, queue management, Terminal Support Officers along with additional signage will be in place to help passengers at these peak times.
Passengers can help reduce their security screening wait times by preparing their carry-on baggage for screening before arriving at the airport to reduce the likelihood of bags needing to be re-screened, increasing the queue time for other passengers. Please read this information and tips below:
- Get familiar with the rules around Powders, Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (PLAGS) - when you’re flying internationally there is a limit to powders, liquids, aerosols and gels you can take onboard. You’re allowed to carry up to 100ml or 100g of each in a transparent 20 x 20cm bag. This can now stay in your bag for screening.
- Not sure what you can bring onboard? Please refer to the Department of Home Affairs website that goes into detail on what you can bring on board and medical information.
