Explore the passenger improvements, security upgrades and behind the scenes of our baggage system upgrade in this animated fly-through of the Domestic Terminal Security Upgrade project.
The Domestic Terminal Security Upgrade has provided a safer and simpler screening process for passengers, streamlining their airport journey.
Major upgrades to passenger and carry-on baggage screening equipment at the screening points opened in December 2025, aligned with government-mandated regulations and means less hassle for passengers, as most items can now stay in their carry-on luggage.
Domestic Terminal upgrades are still progressing with self-check-in, automated bag-drop and baggage system improvements underway.
Works at the Domestic Terminal will continue to progress in the following areas:
- Self check-in and automated bag-drop upgrades on the ground level.
- Central Baggage System upgrades.
- Bathroom renovation roll-out will continue.
After two years of construction within our Domestic Terminal, passengers are now able to experience the new screening points featuring brand-new security lanes equipped with Rapiscan CT (Computed Tomography) screening technology, also known as Standard 3.
Direct access from the Skywalk into the Domestic Terminal for checked-in passengers with carry-on baggage is also open.
The new standard in bathroom design can now be experienced directly opposite Gate 22 at the Domestic Terminal.
New features include:
- Touchless tech for taps, flushes, soap and dryers
- New parent room with feeding chair and changing space
- Accessible and inclusive facilities
- Improved design, airflow and a focus on sustainability features
Bathroom renovations to this new standard will continue to roll out across the Domestic Terminal until 2027.
The Domestic Terminal Security Upgrade project will include sustainable and recyclable custom carpet inspired by Queensland's beaches, environmentally friendly spotted gum hardwood timber and table and bench tops that have high recycled content. This project aligns with our sustainability targets, incorporating electric infrastructure, demand and response technologies, and waste management strategies. All projects must take into consideration our sustainable design guideline.
