Timing: Early April 2018 to June 2019
Investment: $3 million
Construction jobs: 20
As part of an ongoing commitment to the environment and sustainability, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) operates a fleet of 11 electric buses for the landside transport operations within the airport precinct. The operation of the buses requires a dedicated base location both for maintenance and electric charging. Work began in April 2018 off Ivy May Way close to the existing AIRPARK, and when complete in June 2019 will deliver:
New bus maintenance facility
New bus cleaning facility
New office building
New hard-stand bus parking facility (completed)
Eight new electric bus charging stations (completed)
Environmental benefits of the project include:
100 per cent electrically charged buses; zero tail pipe emissions
Reduction of 250 tonnes of carbon emission each year, equivalent to taking 100 cars off the road
Driving range of 600 kilometres on a single battery charge
Reduced noise pollution
Engineered office building roof designed to maximise rainwater harvesting
Engineering structural design to support solar generation
Bio-retention basin to capture and treat storm water runoff before it is discharged to the storm water drainage system
Improved local air quality compared to similar local buses
