Your International Terminal is undergoing a dramatic revamp that will revoluntionise the passenger experience with the most significant upgrades to the terminal since its opening in 1995.
Brisbane Airport is transforming Queensland’s gateway to the world with self-service technology, new passenger and bag screening equipment and improved passenger experiences at every turn.
The International Terminal Security Upgrade will offer a new retail experience and a streamlined passenger journey with a simplified check-in, bag-drop, passenger screening and border processing all on the same level.
The project includes extensive new retail, food and beverage offerings and a re-imagined duty-free experience.
Work continues on a progressive roll out of improved self check-in and automated bag-drop facilities with check-in rows 7 and 8 currently undergoing the upgrade. Rows 1 and 2 have already been delivered with the new equipment with all other check-in rows due for completion by 2027.
Passport control will transition upstairs to Level 4, after the security screening point to provide a more streamlined pre-departure experience for passengers.
Since December 2025, passengers are now screened using brand-new security lanes equipped with standard 3 technology. With passenger screening relocated to Level 4, the pre-departure process for passengers is one step closer to becoming a more stress-free and streamlined journey.
Staged construction is currently underway behind the scenes in the International Terminal Baggage Area on our brand new, energy efficient, best-in-class conveyor system and Standard 3 technology baggage screening equipment. A mezzanine level has been built above the existing baggage system to ensure continued operations and minimise the impact to passengers during construction.
Retail also undergoes a transformation with an overhaul of the specialty retail and food outlet offering rolling out progressively until 2028. Brisbane Airport’s duty-free experience is also set to double in size as part of the redevelopment. As part of a renewed 10-year partnership with Lotte Duty Free, the expansion will feature innovative design, a focus on local brands and sustainability, enhancing the shopping experience.
